AS CAN BE
In 1953 my grandfather was drafted into the U.S. Army. He went on to serve in Nuremberg, Germany as a mortician. While abroad he bought a small 8mm Kodak Brownie camera to document his travels, marking each new location with a title card.
In 2013 I printed a small book with a single frame from every shot he took and went back to those places. I used his 8mm camera to capture the time-altered landscapes, cultures and experiences, creating a short documentary, an original soundtrack and a series of video art pieces portraying Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Dachau, Pisa, Rome and Berchtesgaden.
